Description:Share this article Share 'The facial expressions are brilliant and show the high aggression levels of the animals,' the year-old said. Mr Gerlach said it was only when he got up close that he realised how comical the lions looked when caught in the act In his photographs, the male lion is seen looking fierce as he mounts his mate during the mating season From time to time, the male reaches down to affectionately bite the back of his mate's head - before the pair get up and go about the rest of their day Amusingly, the female at times looks disinterested in the whole process, only sometimes letting out a brief roar They sleep for the rest of the day, waking only to start the mating process all over again, according to Mr Gerlach 'If possible I drive my vehicle during the mating so that I get the lions from the photogenic frontal side.
